– Benevolence & Service –
Service Opportunities
Members of all ages regularly participate in ‘hands on’ service projects that provide us with an opportunity to share the love of Christ. Both monthly and periodic ministries are regularly supported.
Repairers of the Breach
Monthly – 1st Sunday of the month
Our Repairers of the Breach Bag Lunch Express is a monthly ministry through which we prepare 75-100 bag lunches that will be distributed through Repairers of the Breach – a daytime homeless shelter in Milwaukee.
The Bag Lunch express is a multi-generational opportunity for service that can involve individuals and families of all sizes and ages. Help is needed with shopping for items, baking and/or contributing food items, assembling the lunches after worship on a Sunday, and delivering the lunches to the site on Monday.
Loaves & Fishes
Monthly – 3rd Tuesday
Loaves and Fishes is a ministry of St. Benedict’s, in Milwaukee, with which North Shore Congregational Church has partnered for more than 45 years. Each month (on the third Tuesday), a team of volunteers from the church provides a full meal for approximately 300 individuals at St. Ben’s. Volunteers serve in roles that range from cooking and baking, to transporting food, to actually serving and talking with those receiving the food at the time of the meal on Tuesday evening.
The Loaves and Fishes ministry at St. Ben’s began in 1970 and serves more than 100,000 meals each year…
Benevolence Ministries
In addition to the regular meal service, mission trip, and other direct support we have the joy of sharing, North Shore Congregational Church has a commitment to extensive financial support of missions and service programs throughout the world.

Hosanna Mission Trips
“When every family lives in dignity, every roof is tight, and every furnace burns safely; when no one goes to sleep cold or hungry or scared; when every child has a yard and a kitchen and a bed- then we’ll put down our hammers and demonstrate our faith in some other way. Until then, the green trucks are heading down the road to the next project.”
This mission statement of Hosanna Industries reflects the work of which we are a part each summer (usually 1 week). In partnership with Ozaukee Congregational Church and First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa, a large group of members travels to western PA each summer to build homes, repair decks, fix roofs, or whatever else will make a difference to those in need—all while enjoying God’s tremendous blessings that emerge from our time and fellowship together.
Special Projects & Collections
Special Projects
In the firm conviction that our small and simple acts of kindness can mount up to make a world of difference to those in need, North Shore Congregational Church has a number of ongoing and periodic collections that benefit those in need.
Cell Phone Collection
Ongoing
Have an old cell phone lying around collecting dust? Bring it to the church. Used cellphones of all styles and condition are collected at our church office. Phones are recycled with the help of Shelter Alliance and proceeds are passed along to benefit Advocates of Ozaukee.
Used Eyeglasses
Ongoing
A depository is always available in the church office for your old glasses. Collected eyeglasses are forwarded to the Wisconsin Lions Foundation in Rosholt, WI, where they are sorted and redistributed to those in need.
Non-Perishable Foods
Ongoing
Bins available at the north and south doors of the church are filled with non-perishable food brought in by church members throughout the year. As they are filled, members gather the contributions that are then passed along to Just One More Ministry.
Giving Tree
Annually – Christmas
The tags on the Giving Tree are barely hung before they are snatched up by the members of the church. Thrilled to share Christmas joy with families around Milwaukee, gifts ranging from toys to clothes are purchased, placed under the tree, and passed along. Gift needs are guided by, and then distributed through, The Next Door Foundation and Nehemiah House of Milwaukee.
Special Collections
At Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as at other times of crises or exceptional need, the members of North Shore Congregational Church strive to go above and beyond the strong base of benevolence giving to provide additional support to focal programs or efforts across the globe.
