– Congregational Life & Care –
Life happens! Throughout life, we all encounter those moments of grief, sorrow, despair, fear and strife. At North Shore Congregational Church, we seek to reach out to one another in moments of struggle, in a constant endeavor to
love one another as Christ has loved us.
Explore below to learn more about the care and support ministries of our church.
Prayer Chains
“Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Mark 11: 24
We may not always understand the how or the why, but Scripture repeatedly tells that prayer matters. Prayer is the pathway that opens our hearts to God and readies our minds and our lives for the work of the Spirit. As the difficulties of life enwrap the lives of our members, two prayer chains stand ready to lift up those lives in prayer to God.
The traditional Prayer Chain is a person to person ‘phone tree,’ while the E-Prayer Chain allows participants to receive the prayer requests by e-mail without having the immediate responsibility to pass that information on to the next person on the list.
Praying for other members of our church is something we hold as a great privilege of our faith. If you would like to become a part of either of these prayer chains, please contact Rev. Marty at martinhall@NSCChurchWI.org.
Prayer Shawls
One of the more tangible ways in which we are able to remind people of our love and care in their times of need is through Prayer Shawls. Hobby knitters from the congregation prayerfully create shawls to be given to those in hospitals, nursing homes, etc. Anonymously praying over the eventual recipient of the shawl while it is being created, the gifts become a palpable reminder of the love our church holds for that person in his/her time of struggle.
It is a great joy and privilege for our Ministers or member visitors to be able to provide the shawls to those who could use such a lift, and it is very common for our Ministers to return and find our members warmly enfolded in the spiritual embrace of the shawl.
If you would be interested in knitting prayer shawls for our members and friends (patterns can be provided), please contact Rev. Julie at juliesmith@NSCChurchWI.org.
Soupers
Fellowship, Cooking, Hospitality and Care define the ministry of the Soupers at North Shore Congregational Church.
A ministry that is entirely self-funded through contributions and fundraisers, the Soupers serve two primary purposes in the life of our congregation. In addition to their recurring role in frequently hosting various events in the life of the church (special dinners, Lenten Soup Suppers, etc.), the Soupers keep a freezer full of homemade soup in the church kitchen, allowing our Ministers and member visitors to take a container of soup to individuals and families who could use that little ’touch of care’ at home. Individuals just out of the hospital, the home-bound, new parents and many others have all benefit from our Soupers’ culinary expertise!
If you would be interested in helping out as a Souper, please contact the church office.
Worship Mailings
Each week, church members volunteer to coordinate a mailing of the Sunday Order of Worship, News, and the Sermon (printed, CD or both). These mailings are distributed to church members who are home-bound, in skilled-care facilities, or otherwise unable to regularly attend our Sunday services. If you would like to be added to this distribution list, or know someone who would, please contact our Office Manager at kerrinwhite@NSCChurchWI.org.
Card Ministry
Major birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, experiences of grief or struggle…there are many moments in life in which a simple card reminding you that someone cares can make a world of difference. Throughout the year, a devoted member of the church sends cards to our membership in celebration of the joys and in consolation in the face of strife or sorrow. If you know of a member of the church who might benefit from such a card, please contact Rev. Julie at juliesmith@NSCChurchWI.org.
